In modern manufacturing, maintaining dimensional accuracy is only one part of the challenge. Production teams must also manage tight schedules, changing requirements, and the need to perform reliable measurements directly on the shop floor. These demands become even more critical when manufacturing serves industries with strict quality standards.
For Indutch Composites Technology Pvt. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of advanced composite tooling and structures, managing these requirements is an integral part of daily production.
Recognized by EcoVadis among the top 2% of manufacturing companies worldwide, Indutch Composites operates in the general machinery sector and supports a wide range of industries, including Energy, Aerospace, Public Transportation, Marine, and Defense. EcoVadis is a globally recognized organization for corporate sustainability assessments and has evaluated more than 150,000 companies across 180 countries. Each of the industries served by Indutch comes with specific expectations for dimensional accuracy, quality control, and traceability. As a result, production processes leave very little room for delays, inefficiencies, or rework.
When Indutch reviewed its mold inspection workflow, the objective was not simply to make a small adjustment. The team was looking for a solution that could deliver greater flexibility, shorter inspection times, and more dependable results than its existing measurement methods. This evaluation ultimately changed the way the company approached scanning and inspection directly within the manufacturing environment.
Mold inspection plays a critical role in Indutch's manufacturing workflow.
Even small dimensional deviations can create problems further down the production line, particularly when working with composite molds. Such deviations may affect product quality, component fit, and final performance. Before adopting its current solution, Indutch relied on other methods to scan molds and compare the resulting data against CAD models. However, in a fast-moving shop-floor environment, every measurement method requires a balance between operational practicality and inspection performance.
The main considerations included:
In a production environment focused on throughput, even a few additional hours per mold can accumulate into substantial time and resource costs.
For this reason, Indutch opted to investigate a handheld 3D scanning approach.
The decision to explore 3D scanning technology was not made simply to replace an existing measurement tool. Indutch's quality and inspection team wanted to determine whether modern optical 3D scanning could provide the required level of accuracy while addressing some of the limitations associated with conventional inspection techniques.
Indutch found a significant advantage in combining MetraSCAN 3D with Creaform Metrology Suites and PolyWorks software: the workflow does not require leveling.
Rather than creating a fixed measurement setup around each mold, the scanner can accommodate the part directly. This gives operators greater freedom to perform inspection wherever the mold is located within the production area.
Indutch therefore integrated MetraSCAN 3D into its own shop-floor operations. The system is developed for manufacturing and metrology professionals who need reliable measurement results without sacrificing productivity.
MetraSCAN 3D is built to operate under real manufacturing conditions, including shop-floor vibration, part movement, and variations in the surrounding environment. At the same time, it helps streamline 3D measurement tasks. As an optical CMM 3D scanner, the system is designed to deliver accurate, repeatable measurements at the metrology level while supporting 3D surface geometry inspection.
This combination of flexibility and measurement performance resulted in a major change to the company's mold inspection workflow.
Using MetraSCAN 3D, the team can:
The integration of the scanning hardware and inspection software also enables results to be reviewed more quickly and clearly. Dimensional deviations become easier to identify, allowing the team to make decisions sooner. Quality verification can therefore be incorporated into the manufacturing workflow instead of becoming a separate bottleneck.
The time savings were measurable. A mold inspection that previously required approximately 3 hours can now be completed in about half the time — representing a 50% reduction in inspection time.
The transition to the new system was also relatively smooth. Since Indutch's inspection team already had experience with advanced measurement equipment, operators were able to become familiar with the workflow quickly. Consistent and reliable measurement results also helped build confidence in the system during the early stages of implementation.
While ease of operation and reduced inspection time are important advantages, the broader value of the solution lies in how it has changed Indutch's overall approach to quality inspection.
When asked whether the project could have been carried out without FARO CREAFORM technology, the answer was straightforward: No. The ability to perform accurate scanning without leveling was essential to achieving the workflow improvements introduced by Indutch.
Today, MetraSCAN 3D has proven to be more than a solution for a single inspection project. For Indutch, it represents a move toward a more flexible and modern quality control process that can better accommodate the speed and complexity of its manufacturing operations.
Looking to the future, Indutch considers FARO CREAFORM not simply a supplier but a technology partner for continued collaboration. As production requirements evolve and dimensional accuracy becomes increasingly demanding, adaptable and intelligent metrology solutions are expected to play a growing role.
For Indutch Composites, implementing FARO CREAFORM technology is therefore about more than accelerating mold scanning. It represents a broader rethink of how quality assurance can be embedded throughout the manufacturing process.
“Working with FARO CREAFORM has been a significant transformation for our company. Mold inspection requires the highest levels of speed and accuracy, while quality must also be verified directly during production. Handheld scanning technology meets these requirements, and MetraSCAN 3D delivers this capability with an intuitive workflow and exceptional ergonomic design. Reducing mold inspection time by half generates significant savings while creating value for our customers around the world.”
