The hobby of model airplanes is becoming increasingly popular, attracting many aviation lovers. But making a 100% realistic model airplane is not easy, especially when you do not have mechanical skills or mold making skills. So how can we make model airplanes in the most realistic way?
Making realistic model airplanes requires meticulousness and high precision. One of the biggest challenges was recreating the aircraft's intricate details, including the exterior and interior.
Previously, to build model aircraft, engineers had to manually measure the entire surface of the aircraft or the parts that needed to be copied. They then create 2D drawings or 3D models to work with. However, there are many limitations:
1. Use a 3D Scanner
To capture aircraft exterior data, long-range 3D scanners are chosen because of their ability to cover a large area in a short time. Scanning is performed at various locations on the aircraft, including using an elevator for aerial photography. This helps to collect external geometry data quickly and accurately.
For internal components, a handheld 3D scanner is used. This type of scanner is capable of accurate measurements in harsh measurement environments, allowing for perfect direct scanning in the aircraft cabin. Details such as the electrical wiring, air ducts, and truss structure are reproduced in detail and accuracy.
Once the scanning process is completed, all data is aligned and processed in Geomagic Design X engineering software. This software allows for accurate modeling of aircraft components according to customer requirements, ensure the highest accuracy. These 3D scanning data will form a complete digital model, making it easier to perform the next steps in the manufacturing process.
2. 3D printing
Once you have the data from the 3D scanning process, the next step is to use a 3D printer to create a physical model. 3D printers will accurately recreate aircraft details based on digitized data. This process not only saves time but also ensures high accuracy, helping to create perfect aircraft models.
Manufacturing model aircraft using 3D scanning and 3D printing technology is the optimal method to design and produce aircraft models. The ability to capture 100% of an aircraft's surface shape helps make precise measurements, facilitating design and manufacturing. This technology not only saves time and effort but also ensures the highest quality and accuracy for aircraft models.
